Borgo del Tiglio makes beautiful wines.
The Friuli (the sea-kissed region surrounding Venice, notable for its sparkling wines) winery has been revered for decades, namely for their high-quality white wines and staunch dedication to heritage. Led by Nicola Manferrari, who took over his family’s farm in 1981, Borgo del Tiglio has become a quiet giant in the world of Italian wine, thanks to Manferrari’s precision and exacting palate.
Deeply expressive whites and reds, like this Rosso Riserva, please palates with power and grace. “This is a beautifully crafted Merlot from Friuli, invigorating and silky, with understated strength,” says Pria Parsad, the sommelier at New York City’s Crane Club. “I’d drink it with grilled vegetables or a Tomahawk steak.”
And Borgo del Tiglio needs your support right now. Recently, landslides and deadly floods wrecked the Italian region, wiping out historic vineyards and deep cellars of old wines. “Unfortunately, the winery needs support as it was devastated by a landslide last month, which destroyed 10,000 bottles from previous vintages,” says Prisad. “A few people lost their lives. No sommelier or winery is an island—the ecosystem of the wine world is delicate yet unpredictable. Whether you are a casual drinker or a seasoned professional, there’s no better excuse to open a bottle than supporting a great cause.” $100
