Following the box office success of the hit psychological thriller The Housemaid, Lionsgate has officially greenlit a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret, with star Sydney Sweeney and director Paul Feig set to return.
The studio announced that production on the follow-up is scheduled to begin later this year. The film will adapt the second installment of author Freida McFadden’s bestselling book trilogy, continuing the saga of Millie Calloway, the protagonist played by Sweeney.
“It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next,” Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.

The original film, which premiered in December 2025, has become a legit sleeper hit, grossing more than $133 million worldwide against a reported $35 million budget. Critics and audiences alike have praised the film for its wicked sense of fun and its clever revival of the 1990s-style erotic thriller genre.
Sweeney, who also serves as an executive producer on the franchise, has been a vocal advocate for the source material. “I was such a huge fan of the books, so I would be just as happy as everyone else being able to see more Housemaids come to life and getting to explore more of Millie,” Sweeney previously told People magazine.
While the first film focused on Millie’s tumultuous employment with the wealthy Winchester family, the sequel will follow her as she begins a new job for a different family with its own set of dangerous secrets. Michele Morrone, who played the groundskeeper Enzo, is also expected to return.
Although the second book shifts focus away from the Winchester family, actress Amanda Seyfried, who starred as Nina Winchester in the original, recently teased a potential appearance. Speaking at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Seyfried said she would “guarantee” a sequel was coming and expressed interest in a cameo to see how her character’s connection to Millie persists.
Feig, known for comedies like Bridesmaids but increasingly recognized for thrillers such as A Simple Favor, will once again direct. No release date has been set for The Housemaid’s Secret.
