John Wick‘s relentless brand of gun-fu is about to get gamified as Lionsgate seeks to create high-budget video games based on its most successful action movie franchises. On a recent earnings call, Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson revealed that AAA games based on John Wick, Saw and other Lionsgate IPs are in the works, according to multiple reports.

“Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon—we’re seeing increased interest and increased opportunity, and we remain on schedule,” he said, per GameSpot. “So I think in totality, you are going to see a meaningfully additive financial opportunity coming in the coming years.”

Talk of a John Wick-based video game has been swirling since at least 2023, when Lionsgate president Joe Drake spoke of “a ton of energy” about a potential project. Instead, the super-assassin’s universe was expanded with the 2023 prequel miniseries The Continental, which received mixed reviews from fans. The 2025 spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas in a story set between the third and fourth John Wick movies, received a solid reception despite Reeves’ limited screen time.

Wick has gotten limited treatments in virtual interactive realms before, most notably in the form of 2019’s John Wick Hex, a third-person strategy game that tasked players with moving a cartoony Wick on a grid. But what Fogelson referred to in a AAA title would certainly be the most thorough and dynamic John Wick video game experience to date.

From a historical perspective, a playable John Wick tie-in would seem likely to be mediocre at best, as only GoldenEye 007, Batman: Arkham, Spider-Man and a handful of other video game adaptations of movies have achieved greatness out of hundreds of lazy releases But in justifying continued development of AAA games, Fogelson also cited `the success of the John Wick Experience in Las Vegas, an impressively reviewed, full-fledged attraction offering interactive gameplay within a meticulous recreation of the Continental Hotel. Among the many positive reviews, Age of the Nerd wrote, “The attention to detail was mind-blowing and every interaction drew us further and further into [the] story and subsequent action sequences. Every detail is crafted to transport visitors into John Wick’s universe.”

If the same time and care that went into John Wick Live is offered to the AAA game, it just might hit the bullseye.
