Peloton Just Recalled 833,000 Bikes After Riders Report Injuries

In a statement on November 6, Peloton announced that it has recalled approximately 833,000 units of its Original Series Bike+ Model PL02 bikes.

What’s the Reason for the Recall?

The recall comes after three users reported that their seat posts broke while riding, causing them to fall off. Axios reported that these three users were 5’10’’ and weighed below the maximum seat weight capacity of its bikes, which is 297 pounds.

For context, this is not the first time Peloton has issued a recall of its bikes. In 2023, over two million bikes were recalled for the same issue. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, out of the 35 users affected, 13 reported injuries, including a fractured wrist, cuts, and bruising, after the seat detached mid-ride. The seat post was redesigned, and all models produced after 2023 featured the new design.

Is Your Peloton Bike Model Affected?

To determine if your bike matches those recalled, look for your model’s serial number, which is listed in one of three places: behind the flywheel, inside the front fork, or behind the front fork.  The serial number starts with a “T” (i.e., TABCSSXXXXX).

If you’re having trouble locating your serial number, Peloton requests that riders fill out this form for assistance. You can also view this visual guide.

You Can Get a New Seat Post—for Free

The good news is that Peloton is offering free seat post replacements for all users with this specific bike model, which you can order here. For those who need guidance on replacing their seat post, you can watch a tutorial or read instructions on how to do it.

Do not resume riding until after your seat post has been replaced, the company recommends.
