HealthEx and Anthropic Partner to Bring Personal Health Records Directly to Claude

What You Should Know

HealthEx and Anthropic have launched a first-of-its-kind integration that allows Claude Pro and Max users to securely connect their medical records from over 50,000 provider organizations directly to the AI.

– The partnership leverages the federal TEFCA framework and a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) to provide personalized health summaries and lab interpretations while ensuring that sensitive patient data is never used for model training.

Bridging the Fragmentation Gap

For decades, the American healthcare system has been plagued by “data silos,” with patient records scattered across various hospitals, specialists, and portals. HealthEx addresses this by acting as a unified “connector,” allowing patients to instantly consolidate their history through FHIR patient-access APIs and federal interoperability infrastructure.

  • The MCP Breakthrough: Using HealthEx’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, Claude can dynamically retrieve only the specific portions of a record needed to answer a user’s question—such as a specific lab trend or medication list—rather than ingesting the entire file.
  • Identity & Consent: Users verify their identity via biometrics and government ID, maintaining granular control over exactly what Claude can see, from immunization records to clinical notes.
  • Clinical Utility: Early users, such as post-op cardiac patients, are using the tool to identify medication interactions and prepare for follow-up appointments, effectively bridging the “communication gap” between office visits.

The primary hurdle for consumer health AI has always been the “Training Trap”—the fear that personal medical data will be used to train future models. Anthropic and HealthEx have built a “Privacy-First” wall: Integrated health data is not used for model training or stored in Claude’s long-term memory.

“Anthropic and HealthEx are empowering people to manage their health,” said Priyanka Agarwal, M.D., MBA, co-founder and CEO of HealthEx. “As a physician, I watched patients struggle to understand their own health because of how challenging the healthcare system can be to navigate. Growing wait times, shorter visits, and records spread across multiple organizations are the reality for too many Americans. HealthEx unifies users’ records and connects them to Claude so individuals can get personalized insights and take the next step in their health journey with confidence.”

From Insights to Action

This launch coincides with the Digital Medicine Society’s (DiMe) initiative to scale “Trusted AI Care Navigation,” suggesting that the industry is finally moving toward a standard where AI agents are viewed as legitimate partners in the care journey.
