Wine Of The Week: The Set Pinot Noir … from Maxim Kate Dingwall

When brothers Billy and Christopher Hines decided they needed a new outlet for their creativity—they run a successful production company in LA—they looked to another form of storytelling. They headed up to the Sta. Rita Hills in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, called up Sashi Moorman, one of the brightest winemakers in the country, and the man behind Domaine de la Cote and Sandhi in Sta. Rita and Evening Lands up in Oregon.

To make sure they’re telling the story of their 50-acre pocket in the fog-swept, wind-kissed California wine region, they’re working organically, with minimal intervention and all native fermentations. They’re beautiful, joyful, simple wines bursting with fruit. The PTG is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay—bouncy, bright, and slick, balancing the best of both grapes. The Pinot Noir is more suave, with silky red fruit and a shimmering streak of minerality. Best of all? These wines are priced to fit into your weeknight, your every night, and your “let’s have a second bottle” nights.$50
