What You Should Know:

–  Sleep Cycle, a leading sleep technology company, today announced the launch of Luma, a proprietary AI-powered sleep coach designed to revolutionize how users understand and improve their sleep.

–  Built on Sleep Cycle’s proprietary machine learning and audio analysis technology, Luma now takes the app’s data visualization one step further by providing context, clear explanations, and step-by-step recommendations that evolve with each user’s habits and needs. Luma is available to new iOS users beginning December 3, with a broader rollout to existing users in early 2026.

A New Era of Data-Driven, Privacy-First Sleep Coaching

Sleep Cycle remains dedicated to making restorative, healthy sleep accessible to everyone. Its app helps users build sustainable habits, detect potential sleep issues, and interpret long-term sleep patterns with an accuracy shaped by patented sound-analysis technology and more than three billion recorded sleep sessions. This foundation not only informs personalized guidance for individual users but also supports a broader partnership program that includes in-app promotional opportunities, SDK licensing, access to a rich behavioural data library, and, beginning in 2026, medically approved sleep apnea screening. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden and listed on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker SLEEP, the company continues to expand its reach across the global sleep-health ecosystem.

Against this backdrop, Sleep Cycle is introducing Luma, an AI sleep coach designed to bridge the gap between understanding how one sleeps and knowing how to improve it. Drawing on more than a decade of sleep science expertise and the world’s largest repository of real-world sleep behaviour, Luma translates complex insights into practical, personalised guidance. It engages users with adaptive, conversational coaching; interprets weeks, months, or years of sleep-stage and snoring data; and remembers contextual details such as partner presence, pets, daily stressors, and routine changes to deliver human-like follow-ups. Underneath these interactions lies a scientific engine—statistical modelling that filters out day-to-day variability to highlight the habits most consistently linked with better quality sleep. Erik Jivmark, CEO of Sleep Cycle, describes Luma as the company’s first step into a broader AI coaching vision, one that helps people understand not only how they rest but how they feel, perform, and recover.

Luma’s launch also exemplifies a more transparent and privacy-forward approach to AI adoption. Although Luma can initiate conversations at any time, it accesses sleep data only when two strict conditions are met: the user has chosen to securely store their data on Sleep Cycle’s servers, and the user begins a chat that requires Luma to refer to that data. Even then, only the specific and anonymized segments relevant to the conversation are used. Sleep Cycle never shares sound data; users choose what personal information they disclose in free-text chat or sleep notes; and all information is protected through encryption, secure cloud infrastructure, and restricted internal access. Sleep data remains stored locally on the device unless users explicitly opt in to backup or processing, in full compliance with GDPR requirements.

Together, these elements mark a defining evolution in Sleep Cycle’s offering. Luma shifts the field from passive sleep tracking to science-driven, behaviour-shaping coaching grounded in real-time analysis, natural-language processing, and trusted sleep science. By uniting its extensive data foundation with human-centred, privacy-conscious design, Sleep Cycle advances its mission to make high-quality sleep—and the broader health, focus, and recovery benefits it enables—accessible to everyone.
