Honey Health Raises $7.8M Seed to Automate Healthcare Back Office Workflows with AI Agents from HIT Fred Pennic

What You Should Know:

Honey Health, an all-in-one back office AI platform for healthcare organizations, today announced it has raised $7.8M in seed funding led by Pelion Ventures, with participation from Streamlined, Burst Capital, and 8-Bit Capital

– The funding will accelerate the deployment of specialized AI agent teams that autonomously complete complex administrative workflows directly inside healthcare systems.

Solving the Back Office Crisis with Autonomy

Health systems and medical groups are currently caught between rising administrative workloads and crippling non-clinical staff turnover, which often sits at 33-40% annually. Traditional solutions fail because they solve only narrow tasks and require constant human oversight, leaving care teams stretched thin.

Honey’s platform is specifically designed for the mid-market, addressing the unique challenges of organizations facing mixed EHR environments and fragmented tool stack. The company was founded by Matt Faustman and Xiao Zhang, former LinkedIn AI, product, and engineering leaders, who were inspired by their own personal experiences with care delays due to administrative bottlenecks

Since launching in December, Honey has quickly partnered with over 100 medical groups and health systems.. Customers report significant financial returns, including annual profit gains of $50,000 to $65,000 per provider. These gains are driven by reduced backfill costs for high-turnover roles and the ability to add revenue-generating providers without proportionally expanding back-office teams.

“Healthcare organizations are stuck between two broken models: point solutions that only solve narrow tasks and a constant struggle to hire and retain back-office staff,” said Matt Faustman, co-founder and CEO of Honey Health. “We’re offering something fundamentally different: AI agent teams that work autonomously in the background to complete entire workflows. Our customers wake up to finished work, not more tasks to manage.”

How Honey’s AI Agents Work

Unlike co-pilot solutions, Honey’s AI agents work autonomously, logging into systems, navigating interfaces, and completing entire jobs from start to finish—as if a skilled staff member had completed the work. The company’s proprietary Loop Framework and Hive Protocol allow its AI agents to onboard to most EHRs in under 30 days]. This rapid integration and ability to work regardless of the EHR mix is a critical advantage for managing complex health systems and Managed Service Organizations (MSOs).

Honey’s AI agents currently automate high-volume workflows, including:

  • Data Fetching: Retrieving data from external sources (labs, devices, and other systems)].
  • Note Prep: Preparing visit-ready patient notes and charts].
  • Prior Authorizations: Managing the full authorization process.
  • Fax Triage: Sorting, routing, and filing faxes while extracting key details.
