CBS Evening News anchor John Dickerson leaving network from the Hill Dominick Mastrangelo

CBS Evening News anchor John Dickerson will leave the network at the end of the year, the veteran political journalist announced on Monday.

Dickerson, who has been with the Paramount-owned broadcaster since the Obama administration, wrote in an Instagram post he will depart CBS “sixteen years after I sat in as Face the Nation anchor for the first time.”

“I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me— the work, the audience’s attention and the honor of being a part of the network’s history— and I am grateful for my dear colleagues who’ve made me a better journalist and a better human,” he wrote. “I will miss you.”

Dickerson’s departure comes in the wake of a slew of changes at CBS, including the appointment of controversial journalist Bari Weiss as the network’s new top editor.

Weiss was installed by new Paramount boss David Ellison, the son of Trump ally Larry Ellison and one of the richest people in the world.

Paramount earlier this year merged with entertainment giant Skydance and has pledged to retool CBS’ editorial strategy to represent a more “diverse” set of viewpoints.

Dickerson, during his yearslong career in political journalism, has moderated debates, interviewed presidents and reported from locations around the country on top stories and breaking news events.
